December 20th Update

At the last meeting before the break, some ideas were discussed for plans for January. Basically, in the interests of getting the ball rolling on actions that we can take as a group, members are asked to consider projects that they think would be applicable/appropriate for the group to consider taking on. Projects can vary from bringing a talk/movie screening, fundraising for a cause, making a video or newsletter about an issue, interviewing workers...etc...

PROPOSAL MEETING: JANUARY 5TH. During this meeting folks will articulate their ideas and the group will discuss options/goals/ideas etc.

Luis has recommended the following books: "No One is Illegal" by Justin Akers and Mike Davis and "Impossible Subjects" (if not the whole book, at least the section "Braceros, "Wetbacks," and the "National Boundaries of Class") by Mae M. Ngai. He and I both agree that an intellectual aspect to this group would be beneficial, but obviously this is up to the group. This can include readings, maybe newsletters on specific issues, awareness raising efforts among students.


Also, the next Immigrant and Worker Rights Coalition meeting will be Thursday, January 21, at 7pm.

So, enjoy your break if you are on a school schedule, and consider things that the group can take on as projects. Maybe do some of the suggested reading if you can.
